God's Perspective on Time

There is an old saying, “The young talk about the future and the old talk about the past, because we all talk about whatever we have the most of.” When you are ten years old it seems like you will live forever. But when you are ninety years old, you know that you have already experienced most of your life. It’s a difference of perspective.

God is neither young nor old, and his situation is completely different from ours. God has lived forever and will live forever. He is not bound to time as we are. He can take his time to do whatever he wants because he has an infinite supply of time.

In our lives we say that timing is everything. So, if you want to have a baby, you don’t wait until you’re fifty. If you want to be an astronaut, you don’t put it off until retirement. If you want to refinance your mortgage, you don’t wait to apply until after the rates go up.

Imagine what it would be like to be able to make decisions without time being a major consideration. You just decide to do what is right and don’t worry about the timing. That’s a major difference between God and us. God does not see time as we see it. The Bible says, “With the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day.” That’s how God relates to history.

Time may be a limited commodity for us, but not for God. Everything he does is in the right time.
