February 02, 2010 Is Faith Enough?
Our emphasis here on FAITH MATTERS is obviously on things of faith. But listen to this verse from the Bible. “As the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without deeds is dead."
Does that mean that faith is not enough? Do we have to do certain things? Imagine if God created Adam and Eve and never breathed life into them. They would be bodies without spirits, unable to do a thing. Obviously a dead body isn’t much good. The same goes for a person who has faith and never does anything about it. Just as you want a body with a spirit that is alive and healthy, you want faith plus action. Faith that is actively believing in God, having a heart for God and demonstrating that faith by actions toward others, is a faith that is alive – the best kind of faith.
I hope you won't let this teaching of the Bible just slide by. We don’t want to intellectually agree and then forget about it. What God is teaching us here is how to live. If you don’t have faith in Jesus Christ, I encourage you to decide today and tell God you want to believe in Jesus Christ as your Savior. That’s the most important thing that anyone can ever do. If you already believe, take inventory of your actions to see if they match your beliefs. Ask God to help you live out your faith so that others can see it.
Have a faith that’s alive!
